Sewer and Drain Specialists

When a drainage pipe is damaged, it’s expensive, time-consuming, and messy to dig up and replace. Understanding the three steps to reline a drain pipe makes it easy to see why relining is the best option when possible. In this article, we’ll explain what relining is, the three steps to relining, and why it’s an efficient solution.

What Is Drain Pipe Relining?

Before we cover the three steps to reline a drain pipe, let’s explain what relining is. Relining a pipe is also called “cast in place.” Instead of replacing a pipe, repairs are done using the cast in place or relining method.

Once finished, the entire pipe or damaged areas are like new with a cast in place liner. Now, let’s look at the three steps used to reline a drain pipe.

Inspection

As soon as you suspect corrosion or damage of a drain pipe, you should schedule an inspection right away. A drain pipe specialist inspects a pipe using a camera and goes through the entire pipe, looking for damages and blockages. Damage comes from corrosion, age, or a tree root growing into the drain pipe.

The inspection shows where the damage is and whether relining will fix the issue.

Cleaning

Once the inspection shows that relining of the drain pipe is the best option, a thorough cleaning by the drain pipe specialist is the next step.

Using a hydro-jet process along with Picote pipe cleaners, corrosion, tree roots, and debris are cleared from the pipe.

Lining

Once inspections are complete and cleaning has cleared the pipe, the relining begins. A Perma-Liner is placed into the pipe, and the resin within the liner is then cured in place, adhering the liner to the pipe. The result is a pipe within a pipe.

One of the greatest benefits of the relining method is the fact that a yard isn’t completely dug up as it would be when a pipe is replaced. All that’s needed is a small access area.
